An impressive career can conceal some of the darkest stories beneath. Lolo Jones, who is the winner of USA and World the hurdle championships, achieved the status he has achieved after years of dedication and patience. Jones, who was born into a single mother with five children suffering from poverty and hardships as a child, had an extremely difficult early life. In addition, she was on the winning team for the 100-meter relay. In 2003 and 2004 Jones was the winner of the indoor hurdles competition at the NCAA Championship. Jones began training in 2005 when she graduated from her studies. Jones was the winner of Torino Memorial in 2005, in addition to Ostrava and Heusden tracks events the following year.

Brandt relocated from Cape Town South Africa to Auckland New Zealand at the at the end of her teenage years. Brandt was discovered in Auckland by casting directors. Lesley Brandt was cast in the Television show Spartacus: Blood and Sand as Naevia who was a teen hostage. She was later depicted in the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena miniseries.
